Amritsar is close enough to Jalandhar for a comfortable day trip, yet full of places that stay with you for a lifetime. Here is a simple plan that covers the highlights without rushing.
Morning: Golden Temple darshan
Leave Jalandhar by 6 AM and reach Sri Harmandir Sahib early, when the queue is shorter and the morning kirtan fills the air. Do not miss the langar — sitting with thousands of people for a simple meal is an experience in itself.
Late morning: Jallianwala Bagh & Partition Museum
Both are a short walk from the temple. Jallianwala Bagh tells the story of 1919, and the Partition Museum at the Town Hall brings 1947 to life through letters, photos and voices.
Lunch: Amritsari food
- Amritsari kulcha with chole
- Lassi in a big steel glass
- Fish or chicken tikka for non-vegetarians
Evening: Wagah Border ceremony
The Beating Retreat at Attari–Wagah border starts before sunset. Reach about 2 hours early to get a good seat, and carry an ID card. Mobile phones are allowed but bags are not.
Back to Jalandhar
After the ceremony the drive back takes about 2 hours. With a private taxi, you can rest on the way home after a full day.
Book our Amritsar local tour taxi for the full day — the driver waits at every stop, so you can enjoy the city at your own pace.
