The Char Dham Yatra — Yamunotri, Gangotri, Kedarnath and Badrinath — is one of the most sacred journeys in India. From Punjab, the yatra usually starts at Haridwar and takes 10 to 12 days by road.
The traditional order
The yatra is done from west to east: Yamunotri → Gangotri → Kedarnath → Badrinath. Haridwar and Rishikesh are the usual starting points.
When to go
The temples open around late April or May and close around Diwali. May–June and September–October are the best months. Avoid July–August when monsoon landslides are common.
Registration
Registration with the Uttarakhand government is compulsory for every pilgrim. Do it online before you travel and carry the printout or QR code.
Tips for a comfortable yatra
- Keep 10–12 days so the trip is not rushed.
- Kedarnath needs a 16 km trek — ponies, palkis and helicopters are available.
- Carry warm clothes; mornings are cold even in summer.
- Seniors should get a basic health check-up before the trip.
We arrange Char Dham taxis from Jalandhar and all over Punjab in Innova, Tempo Traveller and Urbania with drivers who know the mountain roads well.
