Every year thousands of devotees from Jalandhar and Doaba travel to Katra for the darshan of Mata Vaishno Devi. Going by private taxi is the easiest way for families — you leave from your doorstep and the driver waits for you in Katra.
Jalandhar to Katra by road
The route goes via Pathankot – Jammu to Katra. It is about 220 km and takes around 5 to 6 hours. Many families leave at night, rest in Katra in the morning and start the trek in the afternoon.
Yatra registration
Every pilgrim needs a yatra registration (RFID card). You can register online on the Shrine Board website or at the counters in Katra. Keep an ID proof ready for every member of the group.
Ways to reach Bhawan
- On foot – about 12–13 km from Banganga, with resting points on the way.
- Battery car – available on the new track from Adhkuwari, good for seniors.
- Pony or palki – fixed rates displayed by the Shrine Board.
- Helicopter – from Katra to Sanjhichhat; book early as seats fill fast.
Tips for families
- Wear comfortable walking shoes and carry a light jacket — nights are cold at the top.
- Avoid peak days like Navratri if you are travelling with elderly parents.
- Combine the yatra with Shiv Khori or Jammu sightseeing for a relaxed 2–3 day trip.
We run regular Vaishno Devi taxis from Jalandhar in sedans, Innova and Tempo Travellers. Share your date and group size and we will send you the plan.
